Great. Just great.

To paraphrase my former advisor, Sy, natural selection is all powerful — it can do anything — from developing sonar to electrification to actual meshing gears for locomotion! We give Mama Naturaleza time and she’ll kill it…. so to speak!

Love these animations!

Just amazing the fecundity of nature’s creativity so to speak! I always am in awe…even for our mother most deadly spawn! I love biology!!!

I gotta go get the reference! Come back later.

US sets record for children hospitalized with Covid-19 – La Prensa Latina Media

Hopefully, this will break thru a layer of anti-vaccine ideology…. protect the babies. Wonder if the anti-choice/pro-life folks are anti-vaxx? Gotta be some overlap there!

Covid: Epidemiologist Larry Brilliant on delta variant, vaccinations…pandemic way not over!

9 Aug

People have to guard against opting to ignore reality because they don’t like it. Denying an unpleasant reality hinders your ability to cope. And the reality will bite your ass anyway!

The reality is that a lot of people in the US are unvaccinated by choice frequently and many more people in the undeveloped world are unvaccinated thru lack of access. As long as this remains the case, covid will evolve. That evolution will result in a likely day when covid is able to evade our vaccines. Then we’re all back in square 1 danger… all to cycle thru all this all over again.

The nitty gritty of Food, Life, Pissing etc.

26 Jan

What is food?

Dead life

What is life?

Leaky bags of chemicals. In fact, that is what all human and non-humans are…leaky bags of chemicals.

What is Food again?

Dead bags of chemicals we find around us

What is eating?

Stuffing through the opening in the bag (that is us) the dead bags of chemicals we find around us

What does eating do?

The dead bags of chemicals keep our chemicals replenished and active.

What is exhaling, sweating, shitting, pissing, tears, spit, vomiting, ear-wax, snots?

Other chemicals that we use or can’t use or don’t like getting leaked out that end up grabbed and used by other bags of chemicals around us in their bags.

Thus is life in a nutshell.

Crimson hexa-spoke angles

Here’s another. Just eyeballing’ it, the angles look very similar. Its probably the golden ratio. Nature is amazing. Regularity without mind!

Nature’s Angles

Truly is amazing the regularity of the angles of the needles. It’d be interesting to measure if the angles between the two cacti are similar.

Part 1 of my series … My AI overlord

4 Jul

OK, for the first part of this series, I would have to ask my friends….

Do you think evolution is a fact of nature?

Do you think humans evolved?

Do you think humans are evolving?

Do you think that evolution is natural?

IF your answer to all these questions is yes, then it should surprise you that the humans of the future will not be the same as the humans of today. To incorrectly anthropomorphize, one might even say that this is what nature intended.

Just as we supplanted the Neanderthals, Denosovians, Hobbits and the mysterious others, so shall some further evolved homo species supplant us. Thus is the order of things.

Anybody have a problem with this?

So why am I asking these questions? Its because I think that we as a species are not at the end of our line.  We are continuing to evolve.  An important question is whether people have moral, ethical, gut, rational issues about how we continue to evolve.   If folks acknowledge that we can and should continue to evolve, then they might say that if its “natural”, it has to be random.  if its purposeful, then somehow it is not ok.
